Welcome to maitri

mentoring you through the medical school & residency process

Maitri (pronounced meh-three) has several meanings including benevolence, loving-kindness, friendship, goodwill, and an active interest in others. The loving-kindness aspect of the definition is what Dr. Grover-Wenk wanted to focus on when she was creating Maitri Coaching & Consulting; she wanted her clients to feel like they had a coach and advisor that was interested in helping her clients to achieve their goals not only with inside information about the medical school application process but with kindness as well. Our team at Maitri Coaching & Consulting believes that when the time is right, and with the right guidance, you can achieve your dream of becoming a physician, going on to change the lives of future patients.

Why Choose Maitri?

At Maitri Coaching & Consulting, we aim to provide you with a variety of services that are tailored to your professional needs, led by Dr. Grover-Wenk.

  • Dr. Grover-Wenk is a board-certified, osteopathically trained, family medicine physician with a Fellowship in Faculty & Curriculum Development from the Tufts University School of Medicine, and will be graduating this Summer with her Master’s in Medical Education from a distance learning program with Tufts and the University of Dundee in Scotland. Dr. Grover-Wenk has administrative experiences in both the medical school and residency settings. She has even launched a new family medicine residency from the ground up. She has served as a student on a medical admissions committee and then as a resident and faculty member for residency application committees. She has also been working with students, on her own time, to help them get into medical school for nearly 10 years now and continues to volunteer her time with Prescribe It Forward, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that aims to provide free mentoring and guidance to first generation pre-medical students and those that come from disadvantaged or marginalized communities, to help them get into medical school.

  • Matiri Coaching & Consulting takes a unique approach in that Dr. Grover-Wenk mentors her clients with a coaching mindset. What does that mean? Well, coaching is the concept of mentoring or helping clients increase their self-awareness, engage in conscious decision making with their own inner compass, take focused action, and create accountability to measure progress. These are tools that any medical school or residency applicant could use not only to succeed in the application process but also as a future physician. In fact, coaching is so valuable to physicians that JAMA has published two RCTs (1 and 2) that show the value of coaching physicians and how it is positively linked to their wellness. Dr. Grover-Wenk truly believes in the power of coaching and believes it will be a unique and productive means of mentoring students toward their dream of becoming a physician.

  • Dr. Grover-Wenk believes in the power of mentorship when she takes on her student clients. She has given multiple talks on this topic including the lack of mentorship and equitable leadership positions for women in medicine. She was recently invited by the New Hampshire Osteopathic Association to discuss her research on the value of female mentors to female physician trainees. Her work in advocating for more women in leadership led to her being quoted for a story in Forbes Women in 2022. Dr. Grover-Wenk is also very active in mentoring and guiding first-generation medical students at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and through the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA). She has also won multiple awards for her work as a mentor and teacher for medical students and residents through the Jefferson-Abington Health system, Tufts University School of Medicine, and AMWA.

We want to be your loudest cheerleader and advocate, and help you present not only the best but most authentic, version of yourself.

  • Tina M. (Medical school applicant)

“I would highly recommend Dr. Grover-Wenk for any and all consulting services! I started working with her in June 2022 and I could not be more grateful for her guidance in helping me earn multiple acceptances to medical school! Since day one, she has been a pillar of support and guidance. From conducting several revisions on my personal statement, activities section, and secondaries to spending countless hours reviewing mock interview sessions together, Dr. Grover-Wenk does an incredibly thorough job at helping pre-medical students feel confident in their application and interview skills. When she wasn’t directly helping me with my application materials, she was also a dedicated and compassionate mentor. We had several phone calls, FaceTimes, and zoom meetings during which Dr. Grover-Wenk would share encouraging words and provide her expertise as a former admissions committee member. I could not express just how much appreciation I have for Dr. Grover-Wenk as she guided me through this grueling medical school admissions process. I aspire to be as kind, generous, and talented of a physician, friend, and mentor as she is. She truly is a gem!”

  • Nikki P. (Prescribe It Forward Client)

“Dr. Grover-Wenk was a huge help to me during the medical school application process. She helped me over the course of many months with every step of the process - from making a school list to writing primary and secondary essays to do mock interviews. What stood out to me was how as a physician and previous admissions committee member herself, she truly knows what qualities admissions committees are looking for in applicants. She carefully reviewed all of the application essays that I sent her and gave me specific, detailed feedback about how I could really demonstrate that I possess those qualities in my essays. She always expressed what she truly thought, and it is the genuine nature of her feedback that really took my essays from good to great. I was also impressed by the amount of time and effort she put into helping me; she provided multiple rounds of feedback on my essays, researched each school I was interviewing at to prepare lists of practice questions, and did mock interviews with me for every school I requested one for. I strongly believe that she is one of the greatest reasons for my success this application cycle - I received 8 MD interviews and multiple acceptances, with several being from T20 schools. I truly believe that I would not be where I am without Dr. Grover-Wenk’s help, and without hesitation, I can enthusiastically recommend her business to anyone who is applying to medical school.”

  • Katherine S. (Match Applicant)

“I was fortunate to be put in touch with Dr. Grover-Wenk during one of the most vulnerable times in medical school: writing your personal statement. This period can be extremely daunting for students, as we have spent many years not writing essays. As an alumnus, Dr. Grover-Wenk went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and welcomed any questions or problems that I had in regard to my personal statement with open arms. She was time efficient in getting back edits and always created an environment that made me feel at ease. She assisted me in telling my story in a grammatically correct, yet enticing way. The feedback towards my statement that I received not only from program directors but also other administrative interviewers reaffirmed my gratitude towards Dr. Grover-Wenk.”

  • M.B. (Match Applicant)

“During the beginning of the residency season, I messaged Dr. Grover-Wenk after seeing her help others on a pre-med messaging board. I was a total stranger to her but she had been offering advice and answering questions to help so many other strangers on this forum. I messaged her, and to my surprise, I saw that help was already on the way! The guidance Dr. Grover-Wenk has provided me has been very helpful at every point of time that we have stayed in touch. Thank you so much for being there and helping me out. You are a really helpful person who could be a great guide to help so many people like me achieve their goals! Thank you again!!!”
